What SmartGit is
SmartGit is a graphical Git client (and SVN/TFS bridge) used for managing repositories with a visual interface, staging, committing, branching, merging, and interacting with remote hosts (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, etc.).
- The file was edited (even accidentally) in a text editor.
- Line endings were changed (CRLF vs LF).
- The file was downloaded as a
.txtfile (e.g.,smartgit.license.txt).

- Rename the file to exactly
smartgit.license(no extension). - Re-download from your syntevo customer portal.
- Open in a plain text editor like Notepad++ or VS Code; the first line should be
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----. If you see HTML, it is a corrupted download.
The license file (usually named license or license.xml) is stored in the Settings Directory.
